North Shields FC manager Marc Nash will know that the fixture at Belle View will be far from easy after two tough contests with the Steelmen last season and a very close competition for the title of Northern League Champions last year with North Shields rallying against Consett throughout.

The first encounter between the two sides last season in the Northern League was in October as North Shields headed to league leaders Consett. North Shields who were sitting in 3rd position ran out 3-0 winners in front of a crowd of 664 with Dan Wilson scoring a brace and ex-Robin Ryan Carr getting on the score sheet claiming all three points propelling them up to third position.

After much deliberation it was decided, late on, that there would be a Northern League Division 1 cup, North Shields would of course be drawn against league leaders Consett once again and end up being on the end of a 2-3 defeat.

At the end of March the return league fixture saw Consett who were still league leaders travel to The Morgue, home of North Shields FC who were in 2nd position. The crowd of 569 saw a very hard fought 0-0 draw.

Consett, like North Shields have just recently been promoted to the Northern Premier League: East Division has saw manager Andy Coyles make plenty of changes at The Belle View including the signings of former North Shields players Kieron Aplin and title winning defender Ben Millburn. Former Hebburn Town goalkeeper, Mark Foden also joining the ranks.

It has traditionally been a very tight and competitive contest which always attracts a high crowd.

Consett have started with two disappointing results loosing 4-1 to Goole AFC in the FA Cup and have lost their opening Northern Premier League: East Division fixture away to Cleethorpes Town 2-1.

North Shields on the other hand have won their FA Cup fixture 2-1 against Knaresborough as well as drawing 1-1 in their opening game against Lincoln United.
