North Shields 5 – 1 Tow Law Town

‘Robins bounce back in style’

After the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat on the road to Redcar Athletic, the Robins returned to home action as they welcomed Tow Law Town to the Daren Persson Stadium.

The visitors sitting at the foot of the table were presented with the first chance of the game, inside the first five minutes, a dangerous ball into the box, steered goal bound only to be cleared at the back post.

Brian Smith’s side responded with a short corner routine, which looked to pick out Savage at the back post, the youngster unable to direct his effort towards goal.

Luke Salmon tried his luck with an effort from outside the area, just going the wrong side of the post.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 1-0 – JAIDON ODLE ‘21

A flowing move saw the ball played through the Tow Law defence into the path of Odle, who took a moment to compose himself before smashing the ball into the roof of the net to give the Robins the lead.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 2-0 – ALBE FLETCHER ‘24

A quick throw found McCamley in space, who drove towards goal before squaring to Fletcher, who’d made a run from deep, who took a touch before firing home and doubling the Robins advantage.

Kyle Downey tried his luck from distance after a neat turn, however, unable to keep his effort down as it sailed over the top.

Continuing on the front foot, the Robins were finding space down both flanks, creating chances at every opportunity, a ball into the middle was just too far ahead of Telfer, moments later another flowing move saw Telfer turn his man before smashing an effort just wide of the target.

Telfer again with his third opportunity in a matter of minutes, was unable to convert a good run from Savage.

Tow Law almost found a way back into the game as they reminded the Robins that not game over, a ball into the penalty from the right, saw a free header at the back post, go marginally wide of the post to the relief of the Robins defence.

Half time upon us and the Robins deserving of the lead, on the front foot and in control for most of the half, the visitors, showing glimpses of danger but unable to capitalize.

The second half started with the visitors coming flying out of the traps, forcing a good save out of Dobson.

A move involving a number of players in red almost unlocked the visitor’s defence once again, the ball worked to Telfer, who looked to play in McGowan but the visitor’s were able to clear their lines in the nick of time.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 3-0 – MATTY TELFER ‘58

A corner into the box, the ball bouncing around the six yard box, the keeper unable to gather as Telfer reacted quickest to fire home from close range.

Almost immediately from the restart, Savage found himself through on goal as he skipped past the defender before looking to round the keeper, who was able to get a hand on the ball to deny the youngster.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 4-0 – MATTY TELFER ‘65

The goal of the game, another flowing move which the visiting defence just couldn’t deal with, Savage down the wing, tormenting the defender before slipping the ball to Fletcher, who slipped the ball to McGowan, who squared the ball to Telfer, who calmly took a touch before picking his spot and getting his second of the evening.

With the win seemingly in the bag it was time for changes as McGowan, Telfer and Downey mde way for Pritchard, Kwak and Mason.

GOAL TOW LAW 4-1 – CHARLIE WATSON ‘68

A corner kick unlocked the Robins defence, the ball into the middle, a scramble and the assistant referee flagged to indicate the ball had crossed the line, with little to no argument from any player in red.

Tow Law’s James Rutheford pulled off a terrific double save, firstly denying McCamley before denying Mason from the rebound.

Another series of changes saw Abrahart and Fletcher make way for Cherry and Henry.

A great chance fell to visitors to reduce the deficit, yet another free header but once again unable to steer the effort on target.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 5-1 – CAI PRITCHARD ‘85

A ball over the top, unlocked the Lawyers defence, Pritchard with enough time to compose himself and slot the ball home to make it five.

Full time nearing and Telfer almost had his hat-trick, McCamley causing trouble once again down the right, clipping a ball into the middle, Telfer heading back across goal only for the ball to fall the wrong side of the post.

RED CARD – JACK SALKELD – TOW LAW TOWN ‘90+

To cap off a miserable night for the visitors, they were reduced to 10 men in the final moments of the game for a fleeing elbow from Salkeld in the direction of Pritchard, giving the match official no option but to produce the red card.

A great performance from the Robins, well deserving of the victory and the scoreline to match, despite the scoreline, the visitors never stopped and could have had more than one in reply.

At full time, the Advance Garage Doors MOTM was presented to Will McCamley after terrific performance down the right hand side, who caused the visiting defence no end of problems.
