MATCH REPORT: Hard fought point against The Owls

North Shields 0 – 0 Cleethorpes Town.

MOTM – Jack Walker

A tight affair left Cleethorpes Town with the long journey home with a well earned point. North Shields may be disappointed that they couldn’t break the deadlock, despite a number of good chances, but against a strong Cleethorpes side a point earned is better than none.

In the first half North Shields started well, Cleethorpes happy to sit deep and try hit on the break, especially through the lively Declan Howe. The Shields keeper Hodgson called into action a few times to keep the scores level. North Shields almost took the lead on half time but Regan Paterson couldn’t keep his chance at the back post down.

Into the 2nd half, the game quickly found the same tempo. Cleethorpes again looking dangerous on the break and solid at the back. North Shields having a good deal of possession and knocking it around well but not quite finding the killer pass. A couple of penalty shouts for North Shields were waved away by the referee who managed the game really well. With a few minutes to go Cleethorpes almost stole the points with the best chance of the game but the shot somehow sneaked wide of the post, to the relief of the home fans. Injury time brought one last good chance for the home team, but Paul Van-Zandvliet couldn’t convert at the back post.

A point a piece leaves both teams heading home content but wondering if it could have been more.
