Following detailed & diligent negotiations over the last three months, the committee of North Shields Football Club has taken the difficult decision to step aside from managing North Shields Football Club. Ownership will transfer to the directors of North Shields Juniors AFC.
We have come to this decision with mixed emotions and a heavy heart, but we also know this is the correct decision for the club.
We would like to thank our fantastic supporters, amazing sponsors & everyone associated with North Shields Football Club, for their unwavering support over many years.
We are extremely proud of the deep history associated with North Shields Football Club since its formation in 1896. As trustees and committee, we know this is the right time to secure the longevity and stability of the club, ensuring that North Shields continues to have a community driven club to be proud of.
Since Sean and I took over the reins we have always said that the future of the club is of paramount importance, and it is something we have been continuously passionate about.
The whole committee are unanimously in agreement that this new venture is an exciting one, which will see its challenges but generate greater opportunities in the future for our club. We will remain engaged during the transitional period with North Shields Juniors AFC.
We hand over to the new management team knowing it is in safe hands and the legacy and identity of the club will remain. All parties are committed to being STRONGER TOGETHER.
All the best,
Sean Mulligan & Sean Redford
North Shields Juniors Football Club Statement – Friday 24th May 2024
We are delighted to announce that an agreement has been made to take over North Shields Football Club. This marks a significant milestone in both clubs’ histories and underlines both organisations’ commitment to growth and development in local grassroots football.
Firstly, we would like to thank the outgoing Trustees and Committee of North Shields Football Club for this opportunity and without their support, we could not have made this happen. All involved believe this an exciting opportunity for both clubs and the community to create a pathway for aspiring young talents to progress from grassroots to senior-level competition.
North Shields Juniors AFC will operate independently, with no change to our current structure. This strategic move is underpinned with a long-term vision of fostering talent, promoting sportsmanship, and building a strong, united footballing community. By bringing together the resources and expertise, we aim to create a dynamic and inclusive footballing environment that nurtures the next generation of players and leaders.
We are very much aware of the history of North Shields Football club dating back to 1896 when it was first founded, and the continued passion of the supporters and wider community within North Shields and surrounding areas.
We are grateful for the support of our members, sponsors, volunteers, and fans who have stood by us on this journey. Your dedication and enthusiasm have been instrumental in shaping the vibrant community that our clubs represent, and we look forward to embarking on this new chapter together.
After continued dialogue, we are delighted that Brian Smith and his staff have committed their future to the club for season 24/25. Furthermore, we are grateful to announce that Daren Persson has confirmed that he will continue to sponsor the stadium at North Shields Football Club and support the club for season 24/25.
We would also like to acknowledge Northumberland Football Association & North Tyneside Council for their continuing support towards North Shields Football Club in our negotiations.
Andrew Rose-Cook, Chief Executive of Northumberland FA said: “In an ever-changing football landscape, it’s vital that clubs recognise that sustainability depends on strong links between junior and senior clubs, to nurture the fans and players of the future. We’ve been working closely with both clubs around their longer-term strategy, and we look forward to supporting them on this journey.”
This announcement ensures that as a football club and community we remain STRONGER TOGETHER.
