Pre-Season Round-Up: Building Momentum for 2025/26

🔴

The summer has been anything but quiet at North Shields FC, with hard work going on both on and off the pitch as we prepare for what promises to be an exciting 2025/26 season in the Northern League. Managerial staff and players returned eager to build on last season’s foundations, and with seven new signings arriving, there’s a real buzz around the Daren Persson Stadium.

The new arrivals have added energy, depth, and competition across the squad, giving the management team plenty of options heading into the new campaign. With a balanced mix of experience and young talent, the Robins look ready to push on and make their mark this season.

Our pre-season fixtures have been carefully chosen to test the squad in a variety of ways – from local derbies to step-up opposition, every game has offered an opportunity to gel, learn, and sharpen ahead of the big kick-off.

âš½ Percy Main (A) – 3-0 Win

We opened our pre-season with a commanding victory away to Percy Main. Blair Adams made an instant impact with two well-taken goals, showing his eye for goal early on, while Lee Mason rounded off a professional performance with a composed finish of his own. A clean sheet and three goals marked a positive start to the summer.

âš½ Knaresborough Town (H) – 1-0 Win

Our first home fixture saw us host Knaresborough Town, a tough opponent who provided a stern test. In a tight contest, it was Dan Waldon who found the breakthrough, reacting quickly to slot home the winner. A strong defensive display ensured we saw out the match and took another confidence-boosting result.

âš½ Newbiggin Central (A) – 1-0 Win

Next up was a trip to Newbiggin, a newly-promoted side to the Northern League. Despite their hunger and energy, the Robins held firm and came away with another clean sheet and narrow win. Once again, it was Waldon who popped up with the goal, showing consistency and a real knack for being in the right place at the right time.

âš½ Ashington (H) – 1-1 Draw

A step up in opposition followed as we welcomed Ashington, a club playing in the league above. In a high-tempo match, North Shields matched their visitors across the pitch. Regan Paterson capped off a lively performance with a well-taken goal, and although Ashington found an equaliser, the Robins proved they can more than compete with higher-level teams.

âš½ Dunston UTS (H) – 2-2 Draw

One of the standout fixtures of the summer saw us host Dunston UTS. In front of a lively home crowd, Shields impressed with a dynamic and attacking performance. Brandon Slater and Nelson Ogbewe were both on target, and for much of the game, it looked like a home win was on the cards. However, a late equaliser denied the Robins a deserved victory – though the performance was full of positives and another strong indicator of the squad’s progress.

âš½ Seaton Delaval (A) – Result TBC

🧤 Looking Ahead

With five strong performances already under the belt – including three wins and two draws – the signs are encouraging. New signings have settled in well, the squad looks sharp, and the mood in camp is positive. There’s still work to be done, but this group is clearly focused on the challenge ahead.

With pre-season nearly wrapped up, the countdown to the 2025/26 season is well and truly on. We’d like to thank all the supporters who have followed us throughout the summer – your backing, even in friendlies, makes a real difference. We can’t wait to see you all back at the Daren Persson Stadium, loud and proud, as we get the season underway.

Howay the Robins!
