North Shields secured the signing of Stephen Forster last week from Morpeth Town and the defender is excited to pull on the shirt and get started in the Northern Premier League East Division with his hometown side.
Forster was the first signing of the summer for Marc Nash who is looking to strengthen the squad with more depth.
The 31 years old joined from The Highwaymen and was able to get started straight away. We asked how Stephen felt about signing for the club.
“I’m very happy to have signed. North Shields is a fantastic club and I can’t wait to get started. “
Forster have experience of playing higher up the pyramid – how can that be beneficial for NSFC?
“I think it should help a lot, I’ve been playing at this level for quite a few years now and have won the league we are about to play in so hopefully that experience can help the team next season.”
We have a mix of experienced players and some talented youngsters – how do you see yourself fitting into the side?
“From what I’ve seen so far the lads are great so I’m sure I will have no trouble fitting in with the group. On the pitch I will try and use my experience to help the younger lads whereever I can.”
What are your ambitions for team the upcoming season?
“I will be looking for us to finish as high up the league as possible. It is a new league and a bigger challenge but with the squad we have I don’t see why we shouldn’t be around the playoffs by the end of the season. Add in a good cup run and it would be a very good season. “
Do you have any targets for yourself?
“I will be looking to help the defence continue their great form from last season and keep as many clean sheets as possible. I will also be trying to chip in with my share of assists.”
