The Robins grabbed the only goal of the game in stunning fashion, with Ben Sampson scoring directly from a corner kick to win it late on.
The fixture also saw Carter Milmore play his first game back after re-signing for the club on loan from Gateshead.
It took around 24 minutes for the first big chance of the day to occur, when Benfield’s Glen Hargrave latched his head onto a decent cross into the box, his effort almost skimming the crossbar as it went over.
In a rare moment of goalmouth action at both ends, we went straight down the other end and almost bagged one ourselves. Dan Cherry heading the ball wide after Shields won a corner.
Lashley and Ogbewe shone in the first half for the Robins, with the two regularly making dangerous runs through Benfield’s half, but finding that final ball to a forward proved difficult, as the Lions sat deep and reverted to a back five whilst defending, before throwing everyone forward on the attack.
There was one clear chance before the break though, a through ball in between the defence found Reece Wanless who had made a perfectly timed run into the box from behind, but his strike went agonisingly wide from close range.
In the second half, Elliott had to make a good save from close range when a loose ball in the box was struck at him, before Jordan Lashley tried his luck from the edge of the box down the other end, with the ball clipping the post before going behind.
Shields should’ve gone ahead fifteen minutes before the end after Ben Sampson found Ogbewe at the back post following a great run down the flank. But the forward misjudged the bounce of the ball and sliced the ball over the bar. A devastating miss.
In the final moments of the game it looked as though the Robins would rue the earlier missed chances, until Ben Sampson’s corner miraculously went all the way into the back of the net after the goalkeeper mis-timed his jump.
