‘Robins kick off 2025 in emphatic fashion’

Finally after two weeks of trying, the turnstiles at the Daren Persson Stadium welcomed supporters for the first time in 2025.

A place in the starting lineup for new signing James Sloan in the heart of the Robins defence alongside Curtis Coppen.

The flow of play was visible from the opening moments as the Robins set up camp in the Tow Law half, Cassidy with the first real chance, finding space inside the area but unable to keep his effort down.

Mason then tried his luck but was wide of the target, Lashley then tried his luck twice, the first effort blocked and the second effort wide of the target after a neat turn on the edge of the box, Waldon rose highest inside the area to get on the end of a McCamley cross but could only guide his header wide all of these chances within the first 10 minutes.

A double corner for the Robins almost saw the breakthrough, Tow Law keeper forced to scramble well to deflect the first corner out before gathering well underneath his own bar from the second.

It took 20 minutes to pass before the visitors were able to break out of their own half, the offside flag denying any progression.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 1-0 Tow Law Town – Lee Mason ‘27

The breakthrough coming just before the half hour mark, a short corner worked to Lashley, his cross deflected onto the crossbar, rebounding to Mason to tap home from close range.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 2-0 Tow Law Town – Jordan Lashley ‘31

Without much time for the visitors to regroup, the Robins had their second of the evening, superb battling from Adam Forster to win back possession in the visitors half, the ball worked to Lashley who skipped past a defender before firing high into the roof of the net.

SIN BIN – James Hughes – Tow Law Town ‘ 32

The visitors found themselves down to 10 men temporarily, frustrated at the fact no freekick was given in the build up to the second goal, too much was said to the match official.

More chances fell to the Robins as the break drew closure, Cassidy with an effort but it lacked the power required, Lashley picked out McCamley who found himself driving towards goal with nobody within 20 yards, looking to chip the out rushing keeper but the required execution was missing, Lashley tried his luck just on the brink of half time but the effort skidded wide of the post.

The second half started with the visitors on the attack, a dangerous ball into the penalty area, but nobody in green on hand to tap the ball home.

A superb break from sides, end to end, the ballworked to Cassidy who drove into the penalty, looking to pick out the far corner only to be denied by an equally superb save from Tow Law’s Tom Orton.

Lee Mason was able to bring down a difficult ball in the penalty area and get off a shot but unable to find a way past Orton, who was able to hold onto the effort.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 3-0 Tow Law Town – Dan Waldon ‘63

A superb team goal, Cassidy intercepting the visitors clearance, the ball worked to Mason, who slipped it through to Lashley to cross into the middle for Waldon to fire home from close range and all but seal the 3 points.

Five changes for the Robins saw Hayes, Coppen, Mason, Forster and Lough depart for Curran, Donnelly, Euan Anderson, Ogbewe and Downey with around 20 minutes plus added on time left.

GOAL North Shields 3-1 TOW LAW TOW – Ben Dibb-Fuller ‘75

A neat finish, picking up the ball on the edge of the area, before picking his spot and firing the ball into the top far corner, Curran was given no chance to stop it.

GOAL NORTH SHIELDS 4-1 Tow Law Town – Nelson Ogbewe ‘82

Nipping the bud of a late comeback from the visitors, the Robins had a fourth to put the game to bed, as the substitute opened his account for the Robins, the ball worked to Waldon on halfway, who was able to hold the ball up well, before playing the ball through to Ogbewe to run on to, the forward slotting home with a composed finish into the far corner.

The full time whistle bringing an end to the proceedings as the Robins start 2025 with a win, the Robins too strong for their opponents with a first half performance which should have them go in at the break with a bigger lead, fair play to Tow Law who stuck in all game and battled to the very end.
