MATCH REPORT: Northallerton 1-4 North Shields

👊🔴 Northallerton Town 1–4 North Shields

It was a memorable afternoon on the road for North Shields, as the Robins produced a dominant performance to claim all three points at Northallerton — and fittingly mark the final appearance of captain Jon Shaw, who now departs for Dubai to begin a new chapter in coaching.

He led the Robins out one last time, determined to sign off with a win — and his teammates duly delivered.

First Half

Injury stricken North Shields started brightly and made the breakthrough after just 13 minutes. Lee Mason saw his first effort parried by the goalkeeper, but reacted quickly to bury the rebound and put the Robins 1–0 up.

The second came on 24 minutes, when Reece Wanless intercepted a poor goal kick and broke down the left before delivering a pinpoint cross for Mason, who rose highest to nod home his second of the afternoon.

The visitors continued to push forward — Mason setting up Luke Carr for a thunderous strike that was beaten away, before Callum Elliott was called into action with a superb point-blank save to deny Northallerton just before half-time.

Shields went into the break deservedly two goals ahead, with the 179 in attendance treated to some excellent attacking football.

Second Half

Northallerton pulled one back on 58 minutes, capitalising on a midfield mistake before Sayer fired past Elliott to make it 2–1.

But Shields responded immediately. Just two minutes later, Dean Holmes showed great persistence on the left, whipping in a dangerous cross that found Nelson Ogbewe at the back post to smash home for 3–1.

The Robins wrapped the game up on 75 minutes with a flowing move: Mason slipped Carr through on goal, but instead of shooting, Carr unselfishly squared for Ogbewe to slot past the keeper and secure his brace.
