‘McCamley hat-trick seals victory’
Blustery conditions greeted the Robins on Teesside as the Robins looked to build from Saturday’s El Coastico win.
Sean McCafferty started between the sticks marking his 100th appearance for the Robins.
Kicking into the wind in the first half, didn’t stop the Robins from playing attacking football from the get go, Jordan Lashley picking up the ball on half way before driving into the penalty, his effort lacking the direction required.
Marske’s first chance came from a freekick in a dangerous spot. Fortunately for the Robins, the effort was wildly smashed over the top.
Will McCamley went on a run similar to that of Lashley’s, the same outcome as the effort lacked the direction required.
The home side looked to use the blustery conditions to their advantage, looking to pile pressure on the Robins back line at every opportunity but were met by some stern defending from the Robins defence.
Dean Holmes was on hand to provide a crucial interception to deny the hosts from getting a cross into the penalty area.
A neat move down the left, the ball worked to Nelson Ogbewe who turned to make a yard of space for himself, his effort on target stopped well by Marske custodian Oliver Swan.
At the other end, a dangerous freekick was whipped into the Robins penalty area, Euan Anderson was on hand to deflect the ball out for a corner.
HALF TIME: MARSKE UNITED 0-0 NORTH SHIELDS
The blustery conditions favored the home team, but they were not able to do enough to cause any real danger for the Robins. The Robins were able to carve out a couple of chances of their own but lacked the quality required to convert the chances.
The teams were out for the second half and the blustery conditions were no more. The first chance of the second coming the Robins way, good work down the left, Ogbewe with a fizzing cross into the penalty, where McCamley had lost his man only to be inches away as the ball raced across the face of goal.
GOAL: Marske United 0 – 1 NORTH SHIELDS – Will McCamley ‘62
A long ball forward from Ogbewe with plenty of height on it, was not dealt with by the Marske defence nor custodian Oliver Swan as the ball was dropped to the feet of McCamley who only had to tap home into an empty net, giving the Robins the lead.
Dan Waldon replaced Nelson Ogbewe up front for the Robins.
It should have been an instant reply for the hosts from the restart, a good move seeing the ball worked to the byline, as Kyran Clark cut it back to McCorie Carmichael, who blazed his effort over the top.
A triple change for the Robins saw the introductions of Liam Marrs, Kyle Downey and Ryan Carr in place of Nick Cassidy, Dean Holmes and Adam Forster.
Jordan Lashley picked up the ball just inside the Marske half, drove forward before unleashing an effort from 35 yards, no danger for the hosts.
Danny Anderson provided a teasing cross which only just evaded Ryan Carr inside the penalty area.
GOAL: Marske United 0 – 2 NORTH SHIELDS – Will McCamley ‘80
A good move with patient build up from the Robins, the ball flicked around the corner, where McCamley reacted quickest, driving towards goal before calmly slotting the ball home to get his second of the evening and doubling the Robins advantage.
The Robins were almost gifted a third goal, a freekick for the hosts rushed and the ball played straight into the path of Jordan Lashley, with defenders within 10 yards, drove towards goal but couldn’t find a way past Swan, who was able to spare his own blushes.
GOAL: Marske United 0 – 3 NORTH SHIELDS – Will McCamley ‘90+3
Game. Set. Match Will McCamley.
Putting the result beyond doubt, McCamley wrongfooted the keeper with a neat finish after the ball was worked into the penalty area. The hosts were unable to clear their lines and made to pay.
The match brought to a conclusion, meaning the Robins would return home with the all important 3 points, a strong second half performance and clinical finishing securing the win. The home side had chances of their own but were not able to make them count.
The victory made it 3 wins on the bounce for the Robins, seeing them occupy 8th place going into this weekend’s clash with Newcastle Benfield at the Daren Persson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
