Match Preview – Shildon (A)

Our Robins fought hard to get back into the game against Guisborough last night; however, it wasn’t enough to secure a result. It’s alright though, because this weekend we have another game to look forward to against second-placed Shildon.

As if playing the top two sides in the span of a week isn’t enough entertainment for you, this is the penultimate league match before we head down to Coventry United in the fifth round of the FA Vase.

Shildon has an exemplary record at home in the league. They haven’t lost at home all season, only one draw against Birtley Town. That was last weekend. Is this the start of a dip in form that the Robins can capitalise on?

Despite being an outstanding side, part of the reason why they’re unbeaten at home is the fact that they are one of the only teams in the league that play on a 4G pitch. It changes the ball’s trajectory, and sliding on it takes a huge toll on players, cutting up their knees and not dampening the impact on landing.

Winger Andrei-Vasile Ardelean is the key player to watch on this side. He is their top goal scorer this season with 20 goals in all competitions, including five goals in a single game, a 9-0 thrashing of Brandon Town FC in the Durham Challenge Cup.

The Robins have added in attack since the last time the two faced each other. After a lengthy spell out with an injury, Ryan Carr made his first appearance of the season during the week and came off the bench to score a brace against the top of the league, Guisborough Town.

Despite missing the last game, Regan Patterson is a player who could turn the tide in a game like this. His ten out of ten performance in the thrashing of Carlisle City is not one to take lightly. With two goals and assists, he was instrumental in what turned out to be an afternoon to remember in Cumbria.

If you’re making the trip down to Shildon, safe travels and thank you for your continued support!
