The North Shields squad will be given their final chances to impress this week as West Allotment Celtic make the trip to the Daren Persson Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
Following Saturday’s 4-0 away defeat to Knaresborough Town, a game which saw a number of players unavailable due to holidays, The Robins will face off against Division Two’s West Allotment in what is now the penultimate pre-season friendly.
Last season, the Robins twice lined up against the Allotment; once in a mid-season friendly and once in the semi-final of the Northumberland Senior Cup.
Whilst we were beaten 3-1 in the home mid-season friendly, with the Robins only goal coming from Gary Day, another goal from the Shields striker helped the Robins win 1-0 and reach the Northumberland Senior Cup Final at St James Park.
In their last pre-season friendly, West Allotment Celtic managed to beat Willington Quay Saints 5-3 in what was surely an entertaining game. Previous to that, victories over AFC New Fordley (4-1) Cullercoats (2-1), Newcastle Blue Star (4-3) and Forest Hall YPC (6-1) have shown the Allotment to be a tough opposition who will be looking for promotion to Division One next season.
