The Robins host Stockton Town this weekend in a game which could help stamp Shields’ claim on a promotion place.
As a result of a very late winner from Kyle Patton against Northallerton Town last Saturday, North Shields are now in second place and within touching distance of first-place Hebburn Town.
Shields are now on a ten-game unbeaten run, having won their last five ties against Northallerton Town, Guisborough Town, Newcastle Benfield, Newcastle University and Whickham.
Funnily enough, the last team to have beaten Shields in the league this season are our guests on Saturday, who enjoyed a 3-1 win despite being down to ten men for the entire second half.
Since their terrific start to the season, which saw them remain unbeaten for a large spell, Stockton have stumbled some what, having drawn three and lost one of their last games.
However, the Anchors still have five games in hand on leaders Hebburn and are geared up for a Division One title challenge.
Marc Nash will be thankful that his side came through unscathed after a game on what was a heavy pitch.
A further bonus is that keeper Greg Purvis and defender Wayne Buchanan both returned to the team, with Purvis playing 90 minutes and Buchanan remaining on the bench.
A win for the Robins, coupled with a defeat for Hebburn, could see the Robins climb to within six points of Hebburn as the business end of the season fast approaches.
