Match Preview: North Shields v Billingham Town (16/09/20)

The Robins will be looking to continue their good start to the season when they welcome Billingham Town to the Daren Persson Stadium Wednesday evening.

After a competitive draw on the opening day against Newton Aycliffe, the Robins put in a confident performance to beat Seaham Red Star 3-1, with Dan Wilson getting a hattrick against his former team.

Those results have lifted Shields to sixth place in the Northern League Division One table, with tomorrow’s guests currently sitting in 17th, following two league losses against Thornaby and Whickham.

After a change in management, Billingham Town have seen a number of new players arriving at Bedford Terrace over the summer, including forward Danny Earl, who arrives at the club after a prolific spell with Division Two side Billingham Synthonia.

They have also been boosted by the signing of former Newcastle Benfield midfielder Gee Baltazar, who is currently the club’s top goalscorer this season, with two goals.

Having lost both Kyle Patton and Paul Van-Zandvliet to injuries, Shields manager will be boosted by the signing of Coleby Shepherd, on loan from Northern Premier League side Whitby Town, and Robbie Christie, who spent the majority of last season with Northern League Division Two side Newcastle University.

And with games coming thick and fast for the Robins this month, the opportunity to have as many options as possible was one Nash couldn’t turn down.

Due to the sudden end of the 2019/20 season, these two sides only faced each other once last campaign. At the Daren Persson Stadium, with both teams at that time on a run of good form, we were held to a goalless draw, with both goalkeepers playing their part in an entertaining fixture.

Tomorrow’s game will kick off at 7:30pm and is an all-ticket fixture. No entry will be permitted without a ticket, which can be purchased from the North Shields club house before the game.
