MATCH PREVIEW: Newcastle Blue Star (H)

Our triumph on penalties in the FA Vase against Liversedge FC was truly a spectacle to behold. But the celebrations have to be short, as tomorrow night the Robins face Newcastle Blue Star at the Darren Persson Stadium.

North Shields have now won three of their last four games, and are experiencing a great run of form for the rescheduled fixture. This game was supposed to be played November 19th, and both teams will be looking forward to finally meeting in the league.

The Robins have already played Blue Star twice this season, losing 2-0 in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary round, and winning 2-0 in the Seniors’ Cup. Not much separates the two teams on the form charts; we sit in 9th, while Blue Star sit in 12th; however, they have three games in hand to close a six-point gap.

Newcastle Blue Star haven’t played a game in nearly a month, their last game a 2-1 loss away to Whitley Bay on 15th November. Our Robins could capitalise on the fact that the Blue Star team may be out of practice when it comes to performing in matches. It could also hurt us, since we only played three days before and will be feeling the effects of going to penalties against Liversedge, against a fully rested Blue Star team.

The Darren Persson Stadium will be a big factor in tomorrow’s result. Blue Star performs worse away from home, winning three games from nine and losing the other six.

As always, if you’re braving the cold and coming to the game, safe travels, and thank you for your continued support!
