MATCH PREVIEW: Easington Colliery (A)

With the Robins finally returning to action last weekend, we can finally look forward to our previously postponed tie against Easington Colliery.

Easington Colliery is the next challenge for Shields after our return to EBAC Northern League Division One action. They are currently in seventh, two positions outside the playoffs. They are a team with momentum, having won four of their last five games and averaging two goals per game.

Their attacking output has been on fire as of late, scoring 13 goals across those five matches. Shields will have to put out a strong defensive display to keep Easington at bay. Adamson and Stanton seem like their most in-form attackers; however, they have goals all over the park, with an astonishing nine goal scorers in the last five matches.

Shields stole a winner at the last minute against Boro Rangers, when Ryan Carr leapt over a slipping Boro defender to head the ball over the keeper and snuck it across the line. The game was played on the halfway line for the entire first half – neither team troubled any of the keepers, locked in a stalemate for control of the ball.

Around the 65th minute, after the introduction of Stephen Hall and a change in formation, Shields stepped on the gas. Cross after cross, shot after shot, and Boro Rangers had an answer for everything. They defended for their lives, and defended well. Ben Samspon had a golden opportunity to make it 1-0 when the ball fell to him on the six-yard line, but the Boro keeper pulled off a wonder save to keep the visitors alive. Then inside stoppage time, Shields finally got their reward through the late introduction of Ryan Carr, who has scored three goals in three cameo appearances.

If you’re making the trip to Easington, travel safely, and thank you for all of your support.
