With the dust all but settled from Saturday’s resounding win against Charnock Richard in the FA Vase, Brian Smith’s have to make a quick turnaround and change their focus back to league action, as they make the short journey across the Tyne to take on Birtley Town.
Our hosts for the game, come into the game on the back of a penalty shootout win against Bishop Auckland last time out in the Durham Challenge Cup. Normal time finishing goalless with the Hoops going through 5-3 on penalties.
The Robins in a fine run of form, only stumbling once in their last five, got themselves through to the Third Round of the FA Vase, where they visit Redcar Athletic on 7th December, with a 3-1 win over Charnock Richard, goals from Jamie Holmes and Martyn Davies taking the two sides in level at the break, an inspiring triple change at half time, saw the Robins run out 3-1 winners courtesy of a Dan Waldon second half brace.
When two sides met earlier in the season, it was spoils shared as the two teams played out a 1-1 draw, Kyle Downey on target for the Robins before James Proctor pulled the Hoops level inside the last 10 minutes.
We hope that you can join us for the game and cheer on the lads, if not, you can follow the action as it happens via our social media channels @northshiedsfc
