Match Preview: Billingham Town v North Shields (22/02/20)

The Robins hit the road tomorrow afternoon when they face Billingham Town in another crucial Northern League Division One encounter.

After Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Morpeth Town in the Techflow Northumberland Senior Cup, Shields will be looking to resume their excellent run in the league.

Their hosts, who started the season brightly, have gone through a number of changes in recent weeks, most notably with top striker Craig Hutchinson signing for Guisborough Town.

Billy Town have also seen a change in management recently, with Barry Oliver replacing the outgoing Paul Oliver.

But regardless of the change, tomorrow’s hosts still find themselves enjoying an impressive season, sitting in eighth place on 42 points.

The Robins, on the other hand, will be looking to add further pressure to those teams above them on Saturday, with a win, and results going their way, lifting the club to fourth.

Maximum points on Saturday would also put the Robins three points behind third place Shildon but having played one game less.

Shields’ efforts wont have been helped by the departure of Scott Mccarthy, who has signed for Division One strugglers Whickham.

However with Connor Campbell leading the line, and with Gaz Bainbridge returning to first team action, the Robins boast a strong squad to select from.

The last time these two sides met was earlier at the Daren Persson Stadium which, after a string of fine saves from both ‘keepers, ended 0-0.

Due to floodlight issues, tomorrow’s game kicks off at 2pm instead of the normal time. Please make sure to set off earlier to avoid missing kick off!
