CUP PREVIEW: Grangetown Boys Club (A)

The final home league game of the season may have ended in disastrous defeat, however it’s not all doom and gloom as we still have to look ahead to the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup Quarter Final against Division Two side Grangetown Boys Club.

Boysie have only been in the Northern League for two seasons, and they currently sit in 18th, with one game left to play against Ryton & Crawcrook Albion. They’re not safe in Division Two yet, because if Boysie loses against Ryton & Crawcrook Albion, Billingham Symphonia, and Boldon Community Association could leapfrog them if they win both of their remaining games.

Grangetown are coming off the back of four straight defeats, scoring three goals in the process. Their form hasn’t been great for most of the season, as they haven’t had any periods when they’ve strung together a good run of results. Making it to the quarter-final of the League Cup is a stellar achievement, especially knocking off Division One side Whickham along the way.

Although they play a division down from Brian Smith’s Robins, the magic of the cup means anything can happen. The Robins go into the game after a horrific showing against Birtley Town. North Shields were sluggish, passive, and never looked like getting into the game at all. I can only hope the struggles from last game don’t get into the players’ heads, and they’ll be able to carry out the job at hand.

A cup semi-final is on the cards, and if we reach the final and win, it would put a huge cherry on top of a hardworking season with so many ups and downs. If you’re making the trip to Teeside, travel safely and we hope to see you there!

HOWAY THE ROBINS!
