Robins Confirm Departures of Paterson, Ross, Slater, and Player-Coach Marrs

North Shields Football Club can today officially confirm the departures of first-team squad players Regan Paterson, Callum Ross, and Brandon Slater, alongside long-serving North East football stalwart and player-coach Liam Marrs, following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 Northern League campaign.

As the club begins its preparations for the upcoming season, these departures mark the end of significant chapters for all four individuals at the Daren Persson Stadium. Each player has left an indelible mark on the club, displaying ultimate professionalism, commitment, and quality whenever wearing the red and white shirt or representing us on the touchline.

Liam Marrs (Player-Coach)

  • 2025/26 Campaign: 8 Appearances
  • Club Total: 42 Appearances
  • Position: Right-Back / Coaching Staff
  • Liam Marrs calls time on his spell at Chirton Lane following an illustrious playing career across the North East non-league circuit, most notably establishing himself as a modern legend and consistent right-back at Dunston UTS before joining the Robins. Over the course of the 2025/2026 season, Liam stepped up seamlessly to assist the first-team management staff, bridging the gap between pitch and dugout with exceptional tactical intelligence and leadership. His wealth of experience has been invaluable in mentoring our younger players.

Regan Paterson

  • 2025/26 Campaign: 36 Appearances, 7 Goals
  • Club Total: 95 Appearances, 27 Goals
  • Regan has been an explosive and dependable creative spark for the Robins, finishing his spell agonizingly close to reaching his landmark 100th appearance for the club. Having previously featured for local rivals like Whitley Bay and West Allotment Celtic, his 36 appearances and 7 vital goals in all competitions this term cement his status as one of the league’s most effective attackers. His work rate and knack for delivering in key moments have made him a firm fan favorite, and he departs with an excellent career scoring record of 27 goals in a red shirt.

Callum Ross

  • 2025/26 Campaign: 18 Appearances, 1 Goal
  • Club Total: 18 Appearances, 1 Goal
  • Callum leaves the club after a hard-fought season where he featured 18 times across league and cup competitions, scoring once. Bringing a wealth of higher-level experience to our engine room—including a background in professional academy setups and extensive senior experience with South Shields and Spennymoor Town—the 6’2″ midfielder provided unmatched composure and tactical intelligence on the pitch. Callum provided essential stability and energy to the squad throughout the twists and turns of the campaign.

Brandon Slater

  • 2025/26 Campaign: 28 Appearances, 2 Goals
  • Club Total: 28 Appearances, 2 Goals
  • Brandon finishes his spell with the club after racking up 28 appearances and netting 2 goals over the course of the season. Both of Brandon’s crucial strikes this campaign came in cup football, where his dominant performances in the heart of defence and important goals in the FA Vase spearheaded a highly successful national cup run.
  • A Statement from the Brian Smith, North Shields FC Management Team:

“On behalf of everyone at North Shields Football Club—including the board, the management team, the volunteers, and our magnificent supporters, I would like to place on record our profound thanks to Liam, Regan, Callum, and Brandon. Non-league football relies entirely on the character of the people involved, and these four men represent the very best of it.

Liam’s transition into our coaching staff this year showed exactly why he is so highly respected throughout North East football, bringing the same grit and intelligence he showed at Dunston and throughout his playing career. Regan, Callum, and Brandon have given their all on the pitch, with Brandon’s vital goals in our FA Vase run giving the fans moments they won’t soon forget. We wish them all nothing but the absolute best in their next footballing chapters. They will always be welcome back at the Daren Persson Stadium.”

Good luck Reegs, Rossy, Slats & Marrsy!
