MATCH PREVIEW: Birtley Town (H)

It’s time for our last home league game of the 25/26 season, and we welcome Birtley Town to the Daren Persson Stadium. The Robins sit comfortably in sixth place, while our opponents for the day are in tenth place.

Birtley Town have had a rocky run of form in the last few games. Excluding their last game, a 4-2 win in the Brooks Mileson Senior Cup against Newcastle Benfield, they haven’t scored a whole lot of goals, namely stringing together two 0-0 stalemates against Easington Colliery and Newcastle Benfield respectively.

Top goal scorer Nick Marley hasn’t featured for Birtley since their game at home to Kendal Town on the 7th March. This could be a reason why their attacking output hasn’t been up to scratch in recent weeks, but joint second scorer James Proctor is still in the fold, which means Birtley are still dangerous if they’re not contained.

It was an unlucky showing from the Robins on Wednesday night. After Mechack Kanda’s 92nd-minute winner, a late Reece Wanless goal wasn’t enough to force additional play. They were beaten on the night, but it isn’t all doom and gloom, as we’re still in a cup and it’s all to play for.

Who finishes in the playoff spots is down to chance. Our Robins and West Auckland Town are fighting it out for fifth, and the results this weekend could very well decide who gets to play for a place in the Northern Premier League – East.

We need your support more than ever, as the season comes down to the wire! We hope to see you there…

HOWAY THE ROBINS!
