Match Report
North Shields v Carlisle City
Saturday 30th August
EBAC Northern League Division 1
Daren Persson Stadium
North Shields 3 – 0 Carlisle City
North Shields went looking to follow up the narrow home mid-week win against Penrith as they welcomed Carlisle City team across to The Daren Persson Stadium. However it was Carlisle who started the stronger of the two teams, and they were unlucky not to take an early lead as a header rattled the crossbar before The Robins defence managed to get it clear. North Shields began to settle into the game and had a lot of possession without threatening the visitors goal. In fact Carlisle were unlucky again as a strike from distance again rattled the crossbar. Despite seeing a lot more of the ball North Shields were happy to go in at the break level at 0-0.
The second half started with a few early chances for both teams. Brandon Slater had the first shot on goal for the home side but this just went wide of the goal. Callum Elliott was then alert to twice stop dangerous counter attacks from our visitors. Brian Smith looked to the bench early into the 2nd half and this seemed to have the desired effect on the North Shields team. Stephen Hall hadn’t been on the pitch long when he rose highest from an inswinging Lashley corner to head home the first goal of the game.
Carlisle were not out of the contest though at this stage, and immediately looked for a response. Another swift counter attack resulted in them hitting the woodwork for the third time of the afternoon. North Shields defence again on hand to clear the rebound. Jordan Lashley again was the provider as Regan Paterson was played in with a defence splitting pass. Paterson made no mistake as North Shields gave themselves a little breathing space.
Stephen Hall then completed the scoring as he made himself a 2nd goal and The Robins 3rd, he outsprinted the last defender to get to a long ball first, he then drives into the box and from a tight angle produced a brilliant finish into the bottom corner.
Carlisle City will feel unlucky to not have been on the score sheet but 3 second half goals ensured The Robins took another 3 points. A 4th home game in a row follows as Shildon head to The Daren Persson Stadium next Saturday.
