Match Preview: Whickham AFC v North Shields (12/10/2019)

The Robins will look to extend their unbeaten run when they make the short trip to the First Mortgage Stadium to face Whickham tomorrow afternoon.

As a result of Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw in the League Cup against Heaton Stannington, North Shields are now unbeaten in five games and have only conceded twice along that stretch.

But with Whickham, managed by Robin Falcus, the next in line for Marc Nash’s North Shields team, there will be a chance to climb further up the Northern League Division One table.

The Robins manager will have an almost full quota of players to select for tomorrow’s game, with Jordan Summerly and Gareth Bainbridge the only likely absentees as they look to recover from their injuries.

After adding several new players over the summer, the Lang Jacks have struggled with inconsistency at times this season and currently find themselves in 14th place in the Northern League Division One table.

In their last match, a double from former Ashington forward Lee McAndrew as well as goals from Matty Pattison and Clark Kay helped them to a 4-2 win over Division Two side Sunderland West End in the League Cup.

Whilst they have comfortably qualified for the next round of the League Cup, Whickham have struggled for wins in the league since then, with their last league victory coming away against Sunderland RCA on August 17.

Since then, the Lang Jacks have suffered five league losses against Stockton Town, Consett AFC, West Auckland Town, Hebburn Town and Penrith, and two draws against Shildon AFC and Whitley Bay.

However, given the quality in the Whickham lineup, any underestimation would be a mistake.

The last time these two sides met, a well-taken second half penalty from Kyle Patton was enough to secure the Robins a 1-0 win for the Robins at the Daren Persson Stadium.
