Match Preview: Seaham Red Star v North Shields (25/01/20)

The Robins return to league action tomorrow afternoon as they make the short trip south to face Seaham Red Star at the Ferguson Motor Repairs Stadium.

After the home defeat to Sunderland RCA, the Robins have responded well by beating Newcastle Benfield and West Allotment Celtic; giving us a record of 13 wins, three draws and two loss from the last eighteen games.

In the most recent game (the 2-1 Senior Cup win over West Allotment), a crowd of 214 people saw Kyle Patton further increase his lead at the summit of the club’s top goalscorers chart with an impressive 18 strikes.

But with tomorrow’s hosts coming off the back of an impressive Durham Challenge Cup result against promotion-chasing Consett, the Robins will need to be at their best to extend their run of good form.

This will be the third time that North Shields will have faced Seaham Red Star this season, with the Robins being held to a 2-2 draw in the league before beating the Star 3-0 in the League Cup group stage.

There are also several familiar faces likely to be included in the Seaham lineup, with Chris Bannon, Dan Wilson and Sean McRoberts now playing their football with the Star.

For the Robins, question marks will be raised about the fitness of both Cam Cunningham and Paul Van-Zandvliet, with both youngsters missing due to illness and injury respectively.

Also, if selected, experienced midfielder Gary Ormston will be making his 200th appearance for the club.

But with Scott McCarthy having shaken off a knock he picked up against Benfield, the Robins will be near enough full strength in what will be a closely contested match.
