Match Preview: North Shields v Whickham

The Robins will be looking to bounce back from their opening day defeat when they face high-flying Whickham tomorrow evening at the Daren Persson Stadium.

Despite dominating large spells of the game against Sunderland RCA, they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat after two Dylan Elliott goals cancelled out Ryan Carr’s second half header.

The Lang Jacks, on the other hand, began their season with a comfortable away victory over Newton Aycliffe. Two goals from new signing Carl Finnigan and a solo effort from Kelvin Thear saw Whickham jump to fourth in the Division One table.

Tomorrow’s visitors have made a number of impressive signings over the summer, in the hope of vastly bettering their second to last finish last season.

On top of signing ex-South Shields striker Carl Finnigan, the Lang Jacks also brought in Hartlepool United midfielder Conor Newton, former York City keeper Adam Bartlett and Ashington attacker Lee McAndrew.

The Robins enjoyed success against Whickham last season, picking up four points from a possible six. After being held to a 1-1 draw at the First Mortgage Glebe, goals from Callum Johnston, Ryan Carr, Jordan Summerly and Cam Cunningham saw the Robins to a comfortable 4-1 home win.

With the Robins squad looking to bounce back from the opening day defeat, tomorrow’s game presents a fantastic chance to pick up the first win of the season.
