Match Preview: North Shields v Billingham Town (28/09/2019)

The Robins welcome Billingham Town to the Daren Persson Stadium tomorrow afternoon as they look to break their inconsistent run of form.

Last Saturday, an away trip to Penrith resulted in three valuable points, with Cam Cunningham, Scott McCarthy and Kyle Patton getting on the scoresheet.
However, the Robins have struggled to put a good run together in the league and have yet to register two league wins on the bounce.

The next opportunity for Shields to break this duck will be when newly promoted Billingham Town travel north to NE29.

Tomorrow’s visitors have enjoyed an impressive start to life in Division One. After losing their opening game against Stockton Town 6-0, Billy Town have only lost once more in the league and currently find themselves in 6th place; nine points off the top of the table.

After scoring 30+ goals during their Division Two title winning campaign last season, Craig Hutchinson has settled well in a new division and currently leads their goal scoring charts this season as well.

It has been a long time since the Robins last faced Billy Town. In fact, it was all the way back in 2004 when these two sides previously met in a game which ended 4-1 in favour of tomorrow’s visitors.

You have to go as far back as 1986 for the last time the Robins came out victorious against Billy Town, with a hat trick from Mills and goals from Blair and Taylor helping Shields to a 5-0 win.

The Robins will not be aided tomorrow by the potential absence of several first team players, including the likes of Wayne Buchanan, Chris McDonald, Jordan Summerly and Chris Salmon.

However, after the heavily impressive performance against Penrith last weekend, there is much to be positive about heading into the last weekend of September.
