The season’s over, but the football isn’t over yet. The Robins still have a cup final to play for. We welcome Shildon to the Daren Persson Stadium in the semi-final of the Brooks Milesson Memorial League Cup.
Shildon ended the season in second, far ahead of Whitley Bay et al on points, but not enough to stop the machine that is Guisborough Town from automatic promotion. This meant that they dropped down to the playoffs and have to go through Boro Rangers and either Whitley Bay or West Auckland Town to achieve promotion.
The playoffs will be a priority for them, which gives us a chance to sneak in and get a result tonight. Brian Smith and his Robins have nothing left to play for except this cup, after a last-minute penalty ruined our last game of the season versus Newcastle Blue Star. North Shields found themselves ahead by one going into the final ten minutes, but that Blue Star duo of Lanning and Reid struck to rip all three points away from Shields.
Shildon’s last game was against the champions, Guisborough. The title was already decided at that point, but Guisborough decided to go out with a bang and stick five past our semi-final opponents. It’s ironic because Shildon are by far the highest-scoring team in the league; they scored a whopping 97 goals throughout the season, averaging 2.7 goals per game.
Whoever wins tonight will face off against Newcastle Blue Star or Newcastle University in the final, and the lads need your support more than ever tonight. So come down if you can, and give the lads your all to help them clinch a spot in the final.
HOWAY THE ROBINS!
