MATCH REPORT: Shields fall to defeat to Marske

Match Report

North Shields v Marske United

Saturday 9th August

EBAC Northern League Division 1

Daren Persson Stadium

North Shields 0 – 3 Marske United

North Shields fell to a second league defeat of the week despite an improved performance. A 30 minute delay to the start of the game helped neither team, but North Shields will be more frustrated as Jordan Lashley only lasted 3 minutes before having to come off with an injury. This setback gave Luke Carr an earlier than expected opportunity from the bench.

The first incident of note was a flailing elbow towards the face of Stephen Hall, but the referee decided only a yellow card was a suitable punishment. After this North Shields were the team to settle first, Slater, Waldon and Carr all showed good promise with good link up play but none of the chances fell on target. The best chance for the home side fell in the 35th minute as Euan Anderson found himself free at the back post but the keeper made a great stop to divert it away for a corner. Marske found themselves ahead just before half time, a free kick out wide was whipped into the box, and despite a few players in the way it managed to nestle into the bottom corner, giving Callum Elliott no chance.

The second half seemed to follow the same pattern, North Shields trying to find a way back into the game but just not being able to get the final touch right. Suddick twice got in behind and played dangerous balls across the box but Marske seemed to always have a defender in the right place. Stephen Hall was very unlucky as he rose highest from a corner which smashed against the ball and was cleared.

Marske sealed all 3 points with two devastating counter attacks within 2 minutes as Jey Draper was twice on hand to fire home in the middle as The Robins pushed forward to try and find the equaliser. North Shields will hope some of the chances will be converted as they head down to take on Horden CW on Wednesday night.
