North Shields 3 – 1 Guisborough Town

‘Robins bounce back to take all 3 points’

With the disappointment of Saturday’s late postponement put on the back burner, the Robins welcomed Guisborough Town to the Daren Persson Stadium as Brian Smith’s side changed their focus back to league action.

GOAL: North Shields 0-1 GUISBOROUGH TOWN – Joseph Pickett (5’)

A blistering start from the visitors, catching the Robins somewhat off guard, a perfectly weighted through ball, released Pickett through on goal, who was able to compose himself before slotting the ball beneath the out rushing Hayes.

An almost instant reply was delivered from the Robins, superb work from Lashley creating the chance, the ball fired across the face of goal, reaching McCamley at the back post but the youngster was unable to turn the ball home.

A freekick provided Jamie Holmes with a chance to test Robert Dean in goal for the visitors, forcing the custodian to palm the effort away for a corner.

GOAL: NORTH SHIELDS 1-1 Guisborough Town – Will McCamley (23′)

The Robins turning up the pressure were rewarded with an equalizer half way through the first half, McCamley picking up the ball down the right hand side, cutting inside before picking his spot and curling the ball home to draw the Robins level.

Liam Marrs ventured forward, looking to replicate a similar finish to McCamley moments earlier only for Dean to tip around the post for a corner.

McCamley using his pace got the Robins in behind the visiting defence once again but the youngster was unable to wrap his foot around the ball enough to cut it back to Waldon arriving in the middle.

Brian Smith was forced into an unwanted first half change, Ryan Carr on the edge of a strong challenge, the defender making contact with the ball but the force carrying him through and connecting with Carr’s standing leg, unable to continue, Kyle Downey was introduced to the action.

Half time was upon us and the Robins very much on top, having created the more clear cut chances, the visitors quick out of the block but unable to build on the early goal.

GOAL: NORTH SHIELDS 2-1 Guisborough Town – Kyle Downey (47′)

Role reversal at the start of the second half, the Robins blistering out of the gates, the ball worked to Lashley who worked his way into the box and hung the ball up to the back post, Downey ghosting into the penalty area unmarked, was able to head home from close range and give the Robins the lead.

Minutes later, it could have been three, the ball worked to Lashley on the edge of the area, the effort curled towards the far post but held well by Dean to keep the effort out.

The visitors were presented with a golden opportunity to draw level, slack defending from the Robins, Guisborough through on goal only for a last ditch clearance from Euan Anderson denying them.

Three more changes for the Robins saw Dean Holmes, Ben Harmison and Lewis Suddick take to the field in place of Dan Waldon, Adam Forster and Jamie Holmes with around 25 minutes left on the clock.

GOAL: NORTH SHIELDS 3-1 Guisborough Town – Jordan Lashley (73′)

Game, Set and Match. Darren Lough with a superb challenge to win back possession in the middle of the park, slid the ball into the path of Lashley who worked his way to a shooting opportunity before lashing the ball home in the far corner, putting the game to bed.

Will McCamley looked to add a second to his collection for the evening with an effort from distance.

A freekick clipped into Harmison, who brought it down well before spinning and shooting, the effort with plenty of pace and on target but Dean was right behind it, to scoop it up.

With the game reaching it conclusion and time running out for Guisborough to get back into the contest, spaces began to open up and the Robins almost and probably should have capitalised from with a fourth goal of the evening but it wasn’t to be, a quick break saw the ball worked out to McCamley, a continuous threat all night, squared the ball into the middle, Suddick with the effort but Dean scrambled well to keep the effort out.

The Robins were able to see out the remaining few minutes, as the match official brough the proceedings to an end, a great performance from the Robins to secure the win and bag the all important 3 points, which sees them rise to 7th in the league standings with other results going their way the night before.

Next up for the Robins, it’s take two as Brian Smith’s side take on Wakefield AFC at the Millenium Stadium in the FA Vase First Round Proper.
