Match Preview: North Shields v Guisborough Town FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round

North Shields’ FA Cup adventure begins tomorrow afternoon when we host Guisborough Town at the Daren Persson Stadium.

Following opening day defeat to Sunderland RCA, the Robins bounced back in brilliant fashion, defeating high-flying Whickham AFC 1-0 on Wednesday evening infront of a packed crowd.

With Kyle Patton scoring from the penalty spot to give the Robins their first win of the season, more will be expected of the young winger, and the rest of the team for that matter, as they look to improve upon a disappointing run in the FA Cup last season.

Having been drawn away to Consett last season, the Robins eventually succombed to a 2-1 defeat, after a late goal for the Steelmen caused North Shields to fall at the very first hurdle.

Looking at the league table, both North Shields and Guisborough Town have almost identical records so far in the league. Placed in eighth, only one spot above the Robins, Guisborough Town have a record of one win and one loss from their opening two games; a 2-0 win away at Seaham Red Star and a 2-1 loss to Sunderland RCA.

Level on points with the Robins, Guisborough find themselves one place above us courtesy of the fact that they have scored one more goal than us. This shows that tomorrow afternoon will be a very close affair.

A victory for either side tomorrow will result in a Preliminary round match up away at either Penrith of Seaham Red Star.
