Saturday sees the start of the journey for 442 step 5 non-league clubs in this year’s FA Cup, the journey for the Robins starts with the visit of a familiar face in these parts in Marc Nash and his Newcastle Blue Star side to the Daren Persson Stadium.

As the oldest domestic football competition in the world, it is a competition that all clubs want to do well in and progress as far as possible as the rewards become more lucrative and the dreams of facing off against a big club can become a reality.

The early stages of the competition drawn on a regional basis, it was inevitable that it would be draw in involving Northern League opposition but not necessarily in the form of Newcastle Blue Star, the sides linked through the fact that both managerial teams have managed both teams in recent times and a number of players from both squads have represented both clubs in recent times.

Marc Nash’s side come into the tie on the back of a midweek 1-0 win over Easington Colliery, former Robin Connor Oliver with the goal.

Brian Smith’s side were also involved in midweek action, having to settle for a point, in a 1-1 draw with Birtley Town, Kyle Downey giving the Robins the lead in the 68th minute before the visitor’s drew level from the penalty spot in the 81st minute.

A good game is in store and we hope that you can join us to cheer on the lads. If you are not able to join us at the Daren Persson Stadium, live updates of all the action can be followed on our social media channels @northshieldsfc.
