2019/2020 The Season That Never Happened

Well, what can we say about the 2019/2020 season apart from Wow!!

North Shields Football Club finished the season in 4th Place. With 3 games in hand on 3rd place Hebburn Town and only 8 points behind. It was all to play for..

North Shields FC played 28 games, winning 16, drawing 6 and loosing 6. The Robins scored 56 goals throughout the 28 games and conceded 37 in the league.

North Shields scored 23 goals in all cup competitions. The Robins progressed through the league cup group stage, beating Ryton & Crawcrook in the round of 16 before being set to play Consett before the game got postponed after a late downpour.

The Robins had 27 players make an appearance during the course of the season. With Nashy, Woody, Swinny and the players having some unforgettable games. We thought we would pick out some of the best bits…

– Wed 7th August – Whickham (h) – 1-0 Victory – The 2019-2020 season top goalscorer, Kyle Patton scored just first goal for the club – The striker would go on to score 23 goals for The Robins this season.

– Wed 21st August – Shildon (h) – 3-1 Victory – After our FA Cup game against Guisborough went to a reply and loosing away from home. North Shields returned with a fine win against Shildon. Paul Van-Zandvliet scoring just first goal for the club.

Sat 21st September -> Wednesday 11th December – North Shields suffered a damaging defeat to Stockton Town on Wednesday 18th September before going on a 12 match unbeaten run! The scored 35 goals during this time including 6 against Billingham Synthonia, 4 against Newcastle Benfield and Guisborough Town and 3 against Northallerton Town and Newton Aycliffe.

Thursday 26th December – Whitley Bay (h) – 3-1 Victory – The Robins hosted local rivals Whitley Bay in front of the largest crowd of the season of 676. With goals from Scott McCarthy, Callum Smith and of course that goal from North Shields boy, Paul Van ensuring that North Tyneside was Red again!

Saturday 11th January -> Saturday 8th February – North Shields again went on an unbeaten run of 5 games with victories against Newcastle Benfield, West Allotment, Seaham Red Star, Ryton & Crawcrook and Newton Aycliffe!

Wednesday 19th February – Morpeth Town(h)- 1-3 loss – North Shields then were unlucky to suffer defeat at the hands of Morpeth Town in the semi finals of the Northumberland Senior Cup.

Saturday 29th February – Bishop Auckland (a) – 5-0 victory! North Shields turned on the style on the road at Bishop Auckland with goals from Patton against his former club, a brace from Callum Smith, Cam Cunningham and an own goal gave the travelling supporters something to smile about on their way home.

Saturday 7th March – Ashington (h) 0-0 Draw. The 2019-2020 season came to a halt with a 0-0 draw against Ashington in front of a crowd of 304.

The 2019-2020 season that never happened saw our average home attendance run in at 302.

The season also saw our very own Gareth Bainbridge break the Clubs Post-War goalscoring record. With the final goal coming as a penalty against Ryhope CW for his 164th goal for the club.
