Goalless draw sees the top two share the points

The Robins and Consett played out a 0-0 draw in what was a high quality and tight 90 minutes.

The opening half hour saw very few chances created by either side, Shields possibly coming the closest when Dan Wilson’s ball across the box evaded everyone on the 10th minute.

Consett got their first chance of the game after 40 minutes, but striker Scott Heslop’s header was sent wide of Olly Marshall’s post.

David Robinson then had a great chance one minute before half-time when he got on the end of an aerial ball, but Consetts defenders did enough to tame Robinsons effort.

The score was 0-0 going into the second half.

Much like the first, the second half took some time for both teams to get going.

On the hour mark, Chris McDonald found Robinson at the back post, whose header across goal just missed anyone in a red shirt. Cam Cunningham also saw his effort just go over after Robinsons header was half cleared.

Less than a minute later, Heslop had another good headed effort but this time it was comfortably saved by Marshall.

Shields then saw a strong penalty shout waved away by the referee on the 72nd minute, after Wilson appeared to be tripped in the box after beating his defender for pace.

Wilson nearly stole it in the very last minute for Shields, but Kyle Hayes in the Consett goal stayed big and made sure the score stayed goalless.
