High-flying Robins sink sorry Seahorses
NORTH SHIELDS FC 2-0 WHITLEY BAY FC
The game got off to a quick start in the fifth minute as a well worked run down the right-hand side by Jamie Norvell saw a break into the box but the best the youngster could work was a corner kick.
Arms were raised by the Shields faithful behind the goal from the resulting corner. A looped header was caught by Whitley keeper Dan Lister and appeared to cross the line, but referee Graeme Hopper wasn’t interested.
Another chance fell to Shields in the seventh minute as a freekick from the left-hand side found the head of Anth Myers, which was cleared and landed at the feet of Callum Smith who’s shot was blocked by sea of blue shirts.
The 24th minute saw yet another Shields chance, as forward Dan Wilson Broke down the left-hand side and got his shot away from a tight angle but Lister was equal to it.
The 27th minute saw the first change of the game as Whitley Bay replaced Sam Read with Harvey Dickson.
Just two minutes later the Robins finally got their goal. Callum Smith firing home from a flicked-on header from Dan Wilson.
The game rolled into the 32nd minute and it was almost curtains for The Bay when Wilson, Robinson and Smith combined excellently to get in behind. Smith’s shot left the keeper stranded but he was denied by the upright.
In the 45th minute Whitley Bay finally moved into the Shields box meaningfully, a fantastic long ball from Gavin Dick from a set piece in his own half was nodded on excellently and found Malcom Morien who finished well first time. The Whitley delight was cut short however as the linesman had his flag up.

Just two minutes into the first half saw Shields with the ball in the net. Jamie Norvell smashing home after an interception from Forster landed at the feet of the young striker however once more the linesman’s flag was raised.
It would take just five minutes for Shields to put the final nail in the coffin however. As in the 52nd Wilson received a ball into his feet, held off his man, worked a yard and scored all so familiarly to make it 2-0.
In the 59th minute Whitley Bay made their second change of the game replacing Henry Dorward with Adam Shanks.
The 63rd minute saw Shields strike the woodwork again. This time David Robinson’s close range strike was denied by the upright.
Ten minutes later Marc Nash made his first change of the afternoon. With Callum Smith making way for Jack Leonard.
The game quietened down for the remainder of the match, with neither side threatening to alter the score line.
Marc Nash made his final substitutions in the 87th and 90th minute. With Andy Cartwright and Jamie Norvell making way for Nick Cassidy and Matty Dopson respectively.
