Buchanan hangs up his boots

North Shields Football Club can announce that defender Wayne Buchanan has hung up his boots for the final time.

Wayne signed for The Robins in July 2019 joining the club from Ashington where he was a fans favourite after making 112 appearances and scoring 5 times.

The centre back went on to make 25 appearances whilst on Tyneside and scoring one goal.

Wayne has a comprehensive playing record after starting playing as part of the youth set up at Bolton Wanderers in 1999. Wayne played in his native Northern Ireland for Lisburn Distillery before moving to Australia where he played for Brisbane Olympic and Gold Coast United. Returned to the UK where he signed for Gateshead then moved on to captain Blyth Spartans and played for, Morpeth Town, Sunderland RCA and Ashington.

The 38 year old has made an impact to us all with his solid performances at the back in the red shirt, we can all say Wayne is welcome back at The Daren Persson Stadium any time he likes!

Wishing you all the best Bucky!
