Whitehave Amateurs v North Shields (NL2).  30/04/2010 22:27

Whitehaven Amateurs isn’t the worst place a North Shields side could be on a sunny May afternoon and if a draw is achieved and 6th place is the reward Woody and his merry band of men they will enjoy their trip back along the A69 via the eateries and boozers of Brampton.
Unlikely to make the trip are Hay, Smith, Farman, Pill, Fenton, Luccock, Graham, Robinson, Cartwright, Rasmussen, Livermore, McDonald and Wright. Unfortunately the club was left in a difficult position as players had booked their holidays and time off for what was originally a free weekend. Despite this a 14 minimum will travel with the potential of some of the aforementioned being able to make the trip.
Whitehaven Amateurs have beaten Shields twice this year and have had a good season, starting well but finishing poor. Shields have improved massively and will finish at their highest position since the early 90’s, a huge pointer to the way the club is going.
A trip away is a good end to the 2009/10 season and players, officials and supporters have a chance to enjoy the day as all involved look forward to the summer break and anticipate next season.

North Shields 1 Marske United 0.  27/04/2010 20:31

A lively but mostly uneventful game resulted in The Robins wrapping up all 3 points in the second half as they got back to winning ways and guaranteed a minimum of 7th place this season.
The first half had very little action with both teams exchanging a few sucker punches and the referee struggling to maintain order but his book in his pocket. The second half was a more lively affair and the only goal was scored by a low cross on the left from James Luccock straight into the path of Rasmussen who nutmegged the keeper tapping home. Shields continued to push and had half chances as they were given space on both wings but Marske United nearly pulled level as a shot from distance cannoned back off the cross bar with Robinson beaten.
The game was seen out and the 4th best team in the league had failed to beat a resurgent North Shields team. A win on Saturday at Whitehaven Amateurs will now guarantee 6th place in the league.

North Shields v Marske United (NL2).  27/04/2010 13:09

The final league game of 2009/10 takes place tonight down West Percy Road as Shields still have 6th place to play for and some end of season pride (Tuesday 27th April, 7.30pm kick off).
The visitors are Marske United who will finish the season in fourth position and who will undoubtedly be favourites for the league title in 3 months time. They had a consistent season but tailed off towards the end as the dominance of the three promoted clubs put pay to their aspirations. Earlier this season The Robins came away from Mount Pleasant with a creditable 1-1 draw and many in the stadium acclaimed Shields as the best team they’d seen so far in the season. That was back in October and a great deal has happened since then in particular a cruel run of injuries which manager Anthony Woodhouse has struggled to deal with at times.
This bad run continues tonight as Woody relies on late fitness tests to determine what team he can put out. It’s likely he’ll play at some point himself along with Graham Fenton and Andrew Bowman on the management team.
Its forecast a pleasant evening on North Tyneside and tonight will give Shields support a chance to reflect on the season and look to next with optimism, hope and expectancy.

North Shields 1 Stokesley 2 (NL2).  24/04/2010 20:37

Match Sponsor: Norman Davis
Shields were defeated 2-1 by the league champions but certainly had a go and were unlucky not to walk away with a 2-2 draw.
Shields started off at pace and were lively but Stokesley showed their class and were the better team through most of the first half, hitting the cross bar with a thunder strike half way through. Andy Hay had a chance one on one to open the scoring but the half ended goalless.
Stokesley took the lead through an extremely harsh penalty which the referee awarded from well behind play. They doubled the lead through a quick break with the ball being slotted past Robinson in the goal. Shields pulled a goal back from a stooping header from Ross Atkinson, his first for the club. Shields almost drew level from a late point blank Brian Smith effort cleared off the line but the champions saw out the game to take the three points and the trophy.
Next up is Markse United on Tuesday at home on Tuesday (27th April, 7.30pm)

North Shields v Stokesley (NL2).  23/04/2010 22:23

Champions elect Stokesley visit Ralph Gardner Park this Saturday (24th April, 3pm kick off) as the Robins look to revenge a 5-1 reverse in December in the North Riding of Yorkshire.
Marty Graham, Phil Cartwright, Andrew Wright, Robbie Livermore and James Luccock are all injured and miss out giving team manager Anthony Woodhouse a selection headache. Anthony is himself injured and doubtful along with assistant manager Graham Fenton. Team captain Brian Smith is also doubtful due to work commitments.
Stokesley have had a hugely impressive season and have swept aside most this season. They’ll win the title with a win on North Tyneside and even a draw would see the title travel south unless a catastrophe of volcanic proportions interrupts their dominance of the league.
With planning for 2010/11 already in place tomorrow will be a great opportunity to judge ourselves against a team that should do very well in Division 1 next year.
