North Shields 1 Whickham 1.  27/03/2010 16:08

An afternoon of sporadic entertainment is the best description of a game where both teams seemed to acknowledge the wind down to end of season obscurity.
Both teams failed to gain a grip of the game and chances were few and far between. Chances fell to Shields with John Amos slotting wide after being played in one-on-one and Brian Smith surprisingly missing a header that he’s buried many times in his career. Shields eventually took the lead around the half hour mark as attacking with the wind at their backs Amos played in a deep cross where top scorer Andy Hay headed home.
The second half saw Whickham come back into the game strongly and an early low volley from distance found itself rattling into the bottom corner past an outstretched Robinson. Shields produce little in the rest of the game and the visitors were the most likely to score with one shot being well cleared off the line. An unmemorable game best forgotten in all honesty, a trip West to Whitehaven on Tuesday awaits those hardened soles dedicated to the cause.

Mark Minto Leaves.  26/03/2010 16:19

Mark Minto has left North Shields FC and today re-signed for West Allotment Celtic. Mark joined the club earlier in the season from Ashington and made 13 appearances (+8 sub) and scored two goals.
All at North Shields wish Mark luck and thank him for his efforts with the club.

North Shields v Whickham (NL2).  26/03/2010 11:45

Whickham make the short trip to Ralph Gardner Park on Saturday as The Robins look to get back to winning ways ahead of the big season finale (Saturday 27th, 3pm kick off).
A squad of 19 are available for tomorrow’s fixture giving Woody less of a headache than last weeks trip to Thornaby when he was struggling to put out a starting 11 through injuries. Injured or unavailable for tomorrow’s fixture are Paul Gibbs, Matt Wade and Phillip Cartwright.
Whickham sit in mid table obscurity and were defeated by Shields 2-1 back on a chilly January evening. Goals by a returning Mark Rasmussen and Femi Akinbolu were enough to maintain the lead as a late penalty reduced the deficit. Two recent 0-0 draws have meant no wins in 5 for the team from the swanky suburb of Gateshead although just prior to this run they defeated league leaders Sunderland RCA 1-0 and can perform on their day.
A minutes silence will be held for long time Shields supporter and friend of the club Stewart Arkle who passed away recently and a good turn out is anticipated for the forecast clear, bright but windy afternoon.
