North Shields v Marske United (NL2).  26/02/2010 17:10

*** MATCH CONFIRMED OFF ***

Marske United travel up from Teesside on Saturday (27th February, 3pm kick off). Defeat would almost certainly mean promotion would be on hold for another year but Woody’s boys are fit and raring to go.
A practically fully fit squad is available to pick from with only Chris Farman unavailable. This is a rarity as most games 4 or 5 players have not been up for selection. After recent disappointing results, namely a 4-0 home defeat to Jarrow Roofing and a 3-3 draw at Hebburn Town Shields know a win would set them up nicely for the forthcoming ‘easier’ fixtures.
Marske United have had a good VASE cup run this year and have games in hand and should be in contention to the wire. The Robins deserved more from the 1-1 draw down south earlier in the season and a levelled late on.
This game will undoubtedly see a morning pitch inspection due to the rain and details will be posted online as soon as I have them.

Hebburn Town 3 North Shields 3.  22/02/2010 17:41

From the News Guardian:

THE Robins' hopes of a top three final placing have been dealt a blow by the league's South Tyneside clubs.
If Jarrow Roofing were decidedly flattered by a four goal margin, lowly Hebburn were outplayed for long periods but still managed a shock draw against Anthony Woodhouse and Graham Fenton's lads.
There was plenty of excitement for the neutral in a six-goal cracker but plucky Hebburn should have been trailing by a sizeable margin had Shields had their shooting boots on.
Hebburn were beaten 3-1 on their own patch by the Robins in the F A Vase but should have conceded double figures that day and again they were torn apart by the visitors.
Michael Robinson returned between the posts to replace young Mathew Hunter but centre half Steven Robinson, injured against Jarrow Roofing, was side-lined and Femi Akinbolu not available.
As anticipated it was one way traffic from the off with keeper Kevin Duncan keeping out a Robbie Livermore header, both Andy Hay and John Amos seeing shots blocked and Mark Rasmussen rifling across the face of goal.
A 12th minute lead ensued as Hay, released by James Luccock, weaved his way through only to be denied by the post but Amos was lurking to slot in the loose ball.
The advantage, though, lasted a mere four minutes with the hosts gifted a bizarre equaliser through Jamie Elrington as Shields lost concentration expecting an offside flag.
Given this boost Hebburn could have led but centre forward Michael Armstrong lost possession when well placed before, at the other end, an Amos strike was ruled out by an assistant's flag.
On 22 metres Chris Farman surged forward and his precision pass enabled Amos to time his run perfectly to plant the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1.
Hebburn never threatened to level before the break as Shields should have been out of sight with Luccock, Hay and Rasmussen all having opportunities.
Immediately on the turnaround Amos passed up a glorious chance to complete a hat-trick when, after being set up by Hay, he somehow contrived to blast his effort against a defender on the line.
That miss was to prove costly as within two minutes Armstrong's header restored parity for Hebburn.
Hay was then thwarted in a one-on-one with the keeper whilst Shields skipper Brian Smith nodded a Rasmussen cross into the net but Stanley referee Martin Bunting spotted an infringement.
Shields were completely over-running Hebburn with just about every player lining up to shoot but were becoming congested in midfield.
The hard working Phil Cartwright, surprisingly not in the starting line-up, came on to make his usual impression but a home break saw Marc Brocklehurst in the clear only to lose his footing with just Robinson to beat.
Rasmussen volleyed inches wide before a 'raker' from substitute Andy Bowman made it 3-2 to send the visiting supporters into raptures.
However with five minutes remaining referee Bunting appeased home grumbles when he spotted an alleged push in the box and home captain Colin Nesbitt hammered in the resultant spot kick off the underside of the bar.
North Shields: Robinson, Elliott (Minto 77), Farman, Atkinson (Cartwright 55), Graham, Smith, Livermore, Rasmussen, Hay (Bowman 69), Amos, Luccock. Subs (not used) Hunt, Fenton.

Hebburn Town v North Shields (NL2).  19/02/2010 20:02

Shields came to a stuttering halt after a 4-0 home defeat on Tuesday but they have a good opportunity to get back to winning ways with a trip to Hebburn Town on Saturday (20th February, 3pm kick off).
Woody is likely to reshuffle the pack after the disappointing Jarrow Roofing game. Femi Akinbolu is unavailable and Joe Elliott, Andy Hay and goalkeeper Michael Robinson will slot back into the starting line up. Steven Robinson is injured. The Robins beat Hebburn 3-0 away in the Vase earlier this season and played out a disappointing 1-1 draw at home in the league.
Town have had a poor season so far and have had some heavy reverses. Only the poor form of Birtley Town and Darlington RA has saved them from a worse position in the league.
The Reds will be hoping for a good win tomorrow to get back to winning ways as another difficult game against Marske United looms on the horizon.

North Shields 0 Jarrow Roofing 4 FT.  16/02/2010 23:05

Despite most of the possession Shields had none of the goals as they slumped to a heavy 4-0 defeat at home. This was only the second defeat of the season at home and only the second time the Red Ultra’s has failed to see a home scorer.
The early stages of the game were even but Jarrow Roofing were very sharp on the break and midway through the half the ball was played through and Marty Graham was caught unaware and the ball was slotted past Hunter in goal. Shields fought back and had two good changes as Robbie Livermore and Femi failed to convert from close range. An own goal deflected in by Brian Smith and a close range header when Hunt should have covered better resulted in a three goal reverse at half time.
The second half continued to see Shields push and Jarrow hit on the break and after numerous Robins half chances went begging Jarrow hit against young Matthew Hunter was caught out of position as the ball was hammered home from a tight angle. A late Amos effort hit the post and Robbie Livermore was unable to convert the rebound as an attempt to reduce the deficit failed.
A lesson was given in football to Shields and the supporters went home perplexed. Promotion is more than likely out of reach this season.

North Shields v Jarrow Roofing (NL2).  16/02/2010 12:44

The industrious sounding Jarrow Roofing make the short trip North this evening (Tuesday 16th, 7.30pm kick off) as 2nd play 3rd in what should be an interesting contest. This game is sponsored by club vice chairman Trevor Campbell.
Shields have injury doubts over John Amos, Phillip Cartwright, Femi Akinbolu and Mark Minto. Top marksmen Andy Hay is also a doubt with a knock. Mark Rasmussen and Brian Smith are away however midfield lynch pin Robbie Livermore returns to add some bite into the attacking force as does goalkeeper Michael Robinson. Martin Graham will be challenging for his first start in 3 months having returned recently from a long lay off.
Jarrow beat The Robins early on in the season after putting in a very good first half of the game. Revenge will be sweet against our big promotion rivals should the opportunity be taken. Like Shields Jarrow are on a good run with 5 league wins out of 6, the only blotch in the copy book being a home thumping to the leagues form team Stokesley.
Tonight is a key game in the season as come 9.30pm The Red Ultra’s will have a good idea as to whether promotion is realistic or just a pipe dream. All at Ralph Gardner Park will be hoping for the former.
