Anthony Lowther Passes Away. 28/01/2010 19:37
"It is with the deepest regret that I have to report the passing of Anthony Lowther.
Anthony died at 4pm today (Thursday 28th January 2010) following a very short but serious illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time.
As a result we have had permission to cancel tomorrows game from the league against Brandon United who have been informed of the situation."
Alan Matthews, Chairman North Shields Football Club.
Anthony was a Civil Servant and lived in Hadrian Park with his wife and young child. He represented Life University USA, Atlanta Legends, Prudhoe Town, Tow Law Town, Blyth Spartans, Newcastle Benfield and Bedlington Terriers.
Anthony was born and bred North Shields and it's fitting he finally played for his home town club. The first game he ever went to was the FA Cup game North Shields v Walsall in 1982.
More details will follow in due course.
RIP Anthony Lowther, 05/05/1976-28/01/2010.

Whickham 1 North Shields 2. 26/01/2010 21:10
Three straight away wins and four victories by one goal have propelled The Robins into the promotion places as Whickham were the latest victims.
Shields should have had an early lead as Andy Hay somehow thumped the ball over from 8 yards with nothing but a grinning keeper to beat and again he wasted when played through by Femi to hit straight at the keeper.
Both teams trooped off at half time and it was Whickham who were the fresher off the block in the second half as a succession of corners should have resulted in more.
Shields started to turn the screw as Cartwright hit wide with the keeper stranded and it was Rasmussen, making his second debut, who buried the ball low past the Whickham custodian after Femi had set him up well.
After further attacking Femi himself got on the score sheet finishing off a well taken set piece to tap home.
A late penalty dented the goal difference column as a ridiculous late penalty given for breathing on the attacker reduced the deficit but the points were well and truly heading North of the Tyne well before the 90 minutes were up.
Whickham v North Shields (NL2). 25/01/2010 21:46
The Glebe Ground in Whickham hosts North Shields on Tuesday night (26th January, 7.30pm kick off).
There is almost a full squad to choose from as only player-manager Anthony Woodhouse (injured) and Scott McDonald (Unavailable) miss out. New singing Mark Rasmussen is available to play his first game for The Robins since the last game of 2008/09 cumulating in a 3-1 defeat at Washington. Three wins since the big freeze have seen three victories by one goal with a home game against struggling Brandon United coming up on Friday evening.
After a slow start to the season Whickham have picked up and are at the top end of the form table. The 1981 Vase winners have won the last four Northern league games and will be no push over. Whickham are out of all these seasons’ cups and only have the league to play for but are just about out of the running.
Victory will be hard fought if achieved and a win would see Shields once again become a major threat in the league.
Rasmussen returns home. 25/01/2010 20:14
Former Robins favorite Mark Rasmussen has resigned for the club from West Allotment Celtic. Mark has played 12 times for Celtic this year scoring twice and his midfield quality will be a big addition to Shields as they look to continue the good run.
Mark will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's game at Whickham.
