Gillford Park 1 North Shields 4. 26/09/2009 17:00
Shields conquered the Cumbrians and ran up an impressive away win as they dominated in all but the first 15 minutes.
A slow start resulted in Gillford Park taking the lead as the Carlisle based team knocked the ball about well and Robinson was well beaten with a strike.
The Robins eventually drew level as they broke down the left and Hay cut it back as an advancing Robbie Livermore hammered the ball into the top corner.
After continuing to press John Amos beat the offside trap, having earlier been harshly adjudged offside, to poke the ball past an advancing keeper.
Shields continued to play the ball around well in the second half and it was no surprise to see Andy Hay hammer the ball against the post. The front two seem on fire at the minute and John Amos was on hand to tap in from a Brian Smith downward header to give The Robins a two goal cushion.
Any Hay completed the score line as he broke and slotted the ball home to complete a great win. The result could have been even better had a Hay looping header over the keeper not have been disallowed for a harsh offside.
Next up is a break from League action as Pickering Town are the visitors in the FA VASE next Saturday (3rd October).
Gillford Park v North Shields (NL2). 24/09/2009 22:01
The Mighty Shields march Westward to Carlisle on Saturday for an eagerly envisaged first visit to Gillford Park (Saturday 26th, 3pm kick off). The stadium will be one of the better ones to visit this year with it being relatively well developed having been the home of former rugby league club Carlisle Border Raiders.
Despite bowing out of the league club manager Anthony Woodhouse is still smiling having seen the club progress in the FA Vase and winning a record breaking 5 league games in a row. Having been unable to field a full strength team this season Woody and his assistant Graham Fenton are both injured alongside Irvine, Miller and Errington. Femi Akinbolu is unavailable for the game but James Luccock returns and will add some pace to the attack.
Despite a sluggish start the Cumbrians have picked up their performances and results of late and the game should be an evenly matched affair.
All attending on the bus and via car should be in for a good day out and Brampton beckons for what all wearing The Robins colours will hope is a celebratory night out. The lads will have a week to recover before the big VASE clash against Pickering Town.

Hebburn Town 1 North Shields 3. 19/09/2009 18:39
Smiles all round in North Shields tonight, even the bank manager, as The Robins lined up a game against Pickering Town on October 3rd as Hebburn Town were well beaten on the day by a 3-1 score line that should have been considerably more.
Shields dominated from kick off and after early misses by Femi and John Amos the deadlock was broken after Femi took advantage of a defensive mix up to tap the ball home. This wasn’t to be the last of the game.
Brian Smith doubled the lead 10 minutes later as he rose above the defence and the ball seemed to canon back off him as it ended up in the back of the onion bag.
Shields chances continued to flow and Femi, Amos and Hay were all guilty of poor misses when the goal was at their mercy as Hebburn barely mustered anything in the half.
Hebburn came out in the second half and a comical defensive mistake resulted in the deficit being reduced to 2-1 with barely two minutes of the second half played.
Andy Hay made it 3-1 soon after as yet more frailties by defensive players resulted in him skipping over the keeper to slot home ending the game as conquest. The game petered out with Shields the most likely to go on and make the score more impressive.
Pickering Town await in the next round for what should be an entertaining and challenging game at Ralph Gardner Park. 7 wins to Wembley now…
