North Shields 1 Team Northumbria 0.  31/08/2009 13:44

A hard fought victory saw Shields edge the victory but it could have been so different.
Shields started the brighter and a Femi chance early on saw the Team Northumbria keeper pull off a good stop. Luccock went off early to be replaced by Cartwright and The Robins were soon in the lead as an Anthony Lowther long range effort cannoned off the post and Femi was on home to rifle the ball home. Team Northumbria then came back into the game and had some great chances to draw level as well as two shots that hit the crossbar. Shields had a Dennis Livermore goal disallowed for offside and a shot that went over with the keeper to beat heading towards halftime.
The Second half saw Colin McKenzie on but it was Team Northumbria who continued to press and an outreached Robinson did well to stop a lob from going in. Team Northumbria were harshly dealt with on two counts as an elbow saw one dismissal and then a handball was adjudged in the box. The spot kick from Lowther was well saved by the keeper.
The Robins were lucky to take the points but they’ve played better and got nothing so this result makes a nice change.
Next up is a trip to basement boys Darlington Railway on Saturday.

North Shields v Team Northumbria.  30/08/2009 19:00

Supporters and players of The Robins will need to set their alarms early this Monday as Team Northumbria make a bank holiday visit to Ralph Gardner Park (31st August, 11am kick off).
Having had a free weekend Anthony Woodhouse picks from an almost fully fit squad with only Andy Bowman and Gibbs on the disabled list. John Amos is suspended and new boy Locker isn’t 100% fit so is unlikely to start the game.
Team Northumbria arrive pointless with 3 away defeats. They played less than 48 hours previous to kick off having been beaten at home by Unibond North Ossett Albion on Saturday in the F.A. Cup.
With six games against the current bottom 5 coming up Shields have a real chance to build on the recent improvement in results.
All are welcome at Ralph Gardner Park for what should be a good end to end game.

North Shields FC Managerial Changes.  27/08/2009 19:06

North Shields Football Club can today announce that assistant manager Brian Smith has chosen to step down from his role. Brian wishes to concentrate on his playing career and will continue to play a key role in the future of North Shields. Its 20 years since Shields last played in the top flight of Northern League football and Brian’s goals and defensive strength will undoubtedly play a big part in achieving this.
To replace Brian player manager Anthony Woodhouse has appointed a man of considerable experience to continue the good work started by Brian. Graham Fenton takes up the role with immediate effect and Shields legend Andy Bowman will continue with his first team coaching role.
All at Shields wish Graham luck in his new role as it’s hoped the clubs recent upturn in results continues throughout the remainder of the season.
